How to Measure Walls for Wallpaper
Measuring your walls helps make sure you order the right amount of wallpaper. It only takes a few minutes and can save time, money, and frustration later.
What You'll Need
- Tape measure
- Calculator
- Pencil and paper
- Ladder, if needed
How to Measure Your Walls
- Measure the height
Measure each wall from the floor to the ceiling in feet. Write down the height of each wall you plan to wallpaper. - Measure the width
Measure each wall from end to end in feet. Write down the width of each wall. Ignore doors and windows. - Calculate the square footage
Multiply the height by the width of each wall.
Example:
8 feet high x 12 feet wide = 96 square feet
If you're measuring more than one wall, repeat the steps for each wall and add the totals together.
We recommend adding at least 10% extra for trimming, pattern matching, and installation waste.
A Few Helpful Tips
- Double-check your measurements before ordering.
- Wallpaper with a pattern repeat may require extra material.
