Baby Room Decor: Tips for Designing a Nursery
Few things in life are more joyful than the arrival of a baby. But as you check off your list of things you need before the baby arrives, don't forget about getting the nursery ready!
There's no shortage of cute baby room decor ideas. Here are tips to keep in mind when decorating a nursery for the new member of your family.
Choose a Theme
Although a theme for your baby's nursery isn't necessary, it can make preparing the room more fun as well as make it easy to choose wallpaper, furniture, and accessories. From airplanes to woodland animals, there's no shortage of themes to choose from.
Your baby will only be a baby once, so run with it and have fun!
Create a Soothing Space
Your baby's room needs to be a calming space where noise is kept to a minimum and the color scheme helps them relax and fall asleep.
When designing a nursery, avoid bright, energetic colors and instead go for pastels. You could also choose a fun wallpaper pattern that is cute and whimsical, such as a Winnie the Pooh theme.
If the room isn't already carpeted, you may want to have it installed. It'll muffle the sound of footsteps and make the room feel warm and inviting.
Include Dimmable Lighting
Newborns have very sensitive eyes for the first few weeks of their life. Dimmable lighting is perfect for them as you can control the level of illumination. It can be conveniently turned down to a warm glow at nighttime to help your baby fall asleep or made brighter when you need to change or feed them.
Keep It Clutter-Free
There will be nights where you may have to walk back and forth while holding your baby to ease them to sleep. The last thing you need after being awakened in the middle of the night is to trip over or step on a wayward toy or baby accessory. Try to keep most of the nursery's floor space tidy and clutter-free.
On that note, you may want to invest in baby furniture with plenty of storage space to stash clothing, diapers, blankets, burp bibs, and other items. There's probably no such thing as too much storage when it comes to baby accessories.
Don't Forget a Chair for Mom or Dad
Every nursery should include a comfy chair—one that rocks is optional—that a parent can use while they feed, burp, rock, and cuddle their little one. Choose one in a calming color with easy-care fabric so food and spit up clean right off. You'll thank yourself later!
